Brian McKnight has one of the smoothest male voices in R &B history. He has a powerful and rich tone with an unmatched ability to use his head voice (really high girly note thing). In 1999 McKnight released the song "Back at One" which made the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #2 for eight weeks. I love the song. It is a sappy love song in which McKnight declares that he will do anything and everything to let his women know she is loved. And if he ever completes the task of declaring and displaying his love... he will start back over again.
I sang this song to Beth during a Valentine's Gram at the school where she used to teach. She doesn't like sappy but no matter who you are the idea of the song alone was enough to bring a smile to her face. I knew she would feel it...
Well today is the first day of 2008. In 2007 God showed us his love in various ways. For me, he brought my family and me to Pinelake. He gave me a new group of people to love and lead. He taught me so much about who He is through His Word, Journaling, hearing songs and messages. He even brought salvation to my household and I had the privilege of baptizing my wife. He kept my kids safe and He forgave me every time I messed up. God displayed His love for me every single way in 2007 and in my reading this morning, He reminded me He isn't finished. In reading Genesis 1-2 I couldn't help but smile when I thought about how many times I have started back at the beginning of the love story of God. I have read this text a hundred times yet I always receive something fresh, an expression of His love or His purpose that I missed before. In verse 2 of chapter 1 the Spirit of God hovers over a formless and dark earth and within one chapter, 7 creation days He.....brought form, light , beauty, creatures, the stars, the sun, the moon, the universe. He formed oceans, rivers, lakes, mountains, landscapes. He filled a silent and empty world with sounds of life like a running stream, the waves of the ocean, the light breeze in the trees, the song of a bird, the voice of mankind. You know it never ceases to amaze me that the basics of God's creation story are more complex and miraculous than I can ever grasp........ and I am just at one.
*I have attached McKnight's acoustical version of "Back at One" in Brazil below if you want to check it out.
