How much this verse summarizes the life work and ministry of Jesus. People like you and me where standing by, looking on. They did nothing to help; they were powerless, paralyzed, helplessly watching the event of His Crucifixion take place. Not offering any assistance...just watching. How crazy is it that even the rulers did not understand Jesus' true purpose, His true mission. He came to seek and save the lost....not Himself. He came to pour out, not spare Himself.
Lord let this be a reminder that I was in a position of watching, doing nothing, just watching my life pass by. My problems mounting, my sins piling up like a mountain range around me but there I sat just watching. Just looking on. And while I sat by and read of your sacrifice unfold in Your Word I was just a bystander doing nothing of my own to earn it. You, having the total capacity to self-preserve, instead spared everyone but yourself. Though You had the power to save Yourself , you didn't....so you could save everybody in the process. God please don't let me get tired of this story.....This truth.
