In John 1 Jesus calls Nathaniel to follow him by displaying a small glimpse of his Glory. He shares information with Nathaniel that He in no way could have known. He first talks about Nathaniel's character as if they had know each other for years and then tells Nathaniel that he saw him under the fig tree, which was impossible for Jesus to have seen. At this, Nathaniel claims Christ as Lord and follows Him. I fell in love with this story about two years ago. I now call people's first experience of following Christ as their fig tree experience....That is the first time that Christ revealed to them a glimpse of His Glory and they responded and followed Him in faith.....
I jumped ahead accidentally in my reading today in Life Journal but God had a plan.... I read Matthew 4 and was reminded about my fig tree experience. Here is my entry.
"Matthew 4:23 is were it all started God. I can still remember reading the Bible in my hospital bed the summer of 96' after my injury and coming to Matthew 4:23. You were healing every disease and sickness among the people....and I needed you to heal mine.....and you did. Not just my infection but my sin disease. You saved me in a moment and thus began my relationship with you. I look back 12 years later at our "rocky" times and it has always been my fault. I look back at our "silent" times and I now realize it was because I wasn't ready to hear the answer you were giving me. I look back at the "stressful" times and I realize now I was learning to trust you. God you have been so good to me. Though I have tried on way too many occasions to ruin our relationship, you have been so faithful. Thank you for reminding me this morning of my fig tree...."
